Milton Keynes Central sits on the West Coast Main Line, which is the single biggest reason the city works as a London commute. The fastest train to Euston takes 32 minutes. The slowest takes 67. They cost within a pound of each other on a walk-up return, so knowing which is which is worth real money.
Here is what actually runs, what it costs, and how to avoid paying twice as much as the person sitting next to you.
The fastest train to London
The quickest scheduled service from Milton Keynes Central to London Euston is 32 minutes, on Avanti West Coast. In the morning peak the fastest is 36 minutes: the 06:27 arrives at Euston at 07:03.
Three operators run the route:
- Avanti West Coast is the fast option, 32 to 36 minutes, running through to Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool and Glasgow. Fewer trains, but they skip almost everything.
- London Northwestern Railway is the workhorse. More trains an hour, but they call at Bletchley, Leighton Buzzard, Tring, Berkhamsted, Hemel Hempstead and Watford Junction on the way, so expect 45 minutes to just over an hour.
- Lumo added Milton Keynes Central on 25 May 2026, when it launched a London Euston to Stirling service. It started at one train a day each way, building towards four, and it takes about 35 minutes to Euston. (CitiBlog)
What it costs
These are the walk-up fares between Milton Keynes Central and London Euston, checked on 10 August 2026 from National Rail timetable and fares data. Walk-up means you can buy them on the day and board any valid train.

Three things fall out of that table.
The off-peak day return is the single best-value ticket on this line. At £25.80 it costs £1.60 more than a one-way off-peak single. If there is any chance you are coming back the same day, buy the return.
Peak travel doubles the price. An Anytime Day Return is £51.80 against £25.80 off-peak. If your meeting can start after about 09:30, that is £26 saved.
Adding the Tube is cheap. The Off-Peak Day Travelcard is £32.60, which is £6.80 more than the plain off-peak return and covers unlimited Underground and bus travel in Zones 1 to 6 all day. Two Tube journeys already beat buying separately.
Lumo prices differently: a flat £25.00 Anytime Single, £25.00 Off-Peak Return and £42.00 Anytime Return. If you are travelling in the peak and a Lumo train works for you, £25.00 one way against £25.90 is a small saving, but the Anytime Return at £42.00 undercuts the £51.80 standard fare by nearly £10.
Booking ahead is cheaper again. Advance singles start at £18.00 on London Northwestern and West Midlands Railway services, and Avanti sells an Advance Single Standard Premium at £37.00 that includes a reserved seat.
Season tickets
If you commute, the season ticket is the number that matters. These are the current prices from Milton Keynes Central:

The £7,024 annual season to London Terminals is the standard commuter figure. The Zones 1 to 6 version costs £1,392 more and replaces whatever you currently spend on Tube travel at the London end, so it pays for itself at roughly £116 a month of Underground use.
An annual season works out at about £27 a day over 260 working days, which is close to the off-peak day return. The saving comes if you travel in the peak, when the walk-up equivalent is £51.80.
Set against Milton Keynes house prices, where the average home is £324,767, the £7,024 season is roughly what commuters here trade for a price gap of well over £50,000 on the same house closer in to London.
Getting to south London
There is no longer a direct train from Milton Keynes Central to East Croydon. The cross-London route via Kensington Olympia now needs a change at Watford Junction, which takes about 1 hour 44 minutes to East Croydon on an Anytime Day Single of £35.80 via Kensington Olympia. Going in to Euston and out again via Victoria is about 1 hour 35 minutes but costs £41.30. If you are heading for south London regularly, the Victoria season above is the ticket that covers the Olympia route.
Parking at Milton Keynes Central
Most people driving to the station use the multi-storey on Elder Gate, MK9 1LA, run by Saba. It has 502 standard spaces, 20 Blue Badge bays and 12 parent and child spaces, and it is open 24 hours with ANPR and no barriers, so you pay by app, website or machine rather than at a gate. There is a 1.8 metre height limit.

At £12.80 a day, five days a week, station parking costs more than £3,000 a year on top of the £7,024 season. The twelve-month parking product at £1,374.80 saves roughly £1,950 against daily rates if you drive in every working day. Registered Blue Badge holders park free in the designated bays.

National Rail lists 549 parking spaces in total at the station, including 15 accessible spaces, across the multi-storey and surface areas.
East West Rail: still not running
The Oxford to Milton Keynes line through Bletchley is built, but it is not carrying passengers. Track work finished in early 2024 and freight has used the route since June 2025. Passenger services were originally due in the second half of 2025 and have not started, with a dispute over driver-only operation the sticking point. Provision for the service appears in the December 2026 timetable, but no start date has been confirmed. (Rail Business UK)
If it opens, it changes the map for Bletchley: a direct run west to Bicester, Oxford and the new station at Winslow. For now, treat it as a plan rather than a timetable.
